The absurdity of the current Russia/Ukraine situation is quite utterly profound. Granted, civilisation has never quite managed to get beyond the neurotic atavistic hangover of reckless imperialist expansionism that is currently on display, but the sheer complexity of our contemporary international system indicates that accelerated dissolution of military governance and control in such a conflict is not only likely, it remains somewhat inevitable. The more possible states any complex system possesses, the more probable that it will drift through them into potentially unrecoverable disorder. Sure, an eventual resolution into relatively stable post-conflict alignments and interests is probable but the catastrophic absurdity of choosing to travel through a landscape of broken lives and shattered cities to get there portrays an act of monumental stupidity.
