…indeed it is, but the mystery is as to why the gambler proceeds to throw good money after bad, to dig a deeper pit of despair and suffering around the catastrophe that they alone have summoned into a world for which such brutal atavism should by now be little more than a receding historical memory. We appear to be observing a hybrid neurochemical, historico-mythological and ideological addiction to the reflexively self-validating political identities and insecurities that conflict invokes.
It is a dependence like any other and must either be terminated with an expected burden of discomfort and withdrawal or otherwise follow the long and tortuously inevitable spiral into the oblivion of self-destruction.
