A sketch or partial figurative representation might capture more in its various exclusions and absences by virtue of the utter ineffability of lived experience, the implausibility of capturing experience in high-fidelity. There are ways or senses in which the entire empiricist psychological regime collapses on this account – what we can record, collate, aggregate and model is only ever a dull (though perhaps data-rich) shadow of the gestalt which is lived experience. Science and demonstrable, falsifiable theory are invaluable but their approach to their object (in this context) of lived experience – this remains an asymptotic approach which never, ever quite “gets there”.
