Because it is, at its core and as are we all, a fundamentally introspective process:
(a) it cannot isomorphically enclose itself or provide epistemological certainty (cf. logical incompleteness), and (b) it contains within, through the globally recursive seed of entropic unboundedness, a partial and experimental key to unraveling the enigma that it itself embodies.
The implication is that these reciprocal properties—observer and observed, self and world (or other), existence and (metaphysical) nonexistence—are entities entangled in a binding unity that simultaneously erases the difference by and through which identities are constructed, suggesting that such binaries as are necessary to provide the gradients of difference and distance that sustain language and culture also represent the logical equivalent of a false vacuum. Communication, that is, precedes truth.
If we assume the ubiquity of complex, non-orientable topologies in holistic dynamical systems, pursuing such binding conceptual architecture offers a rational basis and adaptive method for analysing cultural, communicative, and other complex systems. It is akin to following the sly grin of the Cheshire Cat of synchronicity into emptiness: an enigma saturates existence, concealed not just in the shadows but also in the illumination and essential wonder of our lived experience.
This unity is indistinguishable from nothingness. In some (anamorphic) perspectives, it aligns with infinity. Subtle points with 30 years reflection behind them, so feel free to differ – if you are following the script here, it is kind of inevitable that you will, but it certainly does not need to be adversarial. I asked myself: “what would it mean to dissolve the world into infinite complexity?”
Answering, with a wry smile: “the Zen switch here is that the world can be simultaneously real and present AND self-negated emptiness in this way. It is in some sense already and stultifyingly infinite”.
