Naive Happiness

Whether as a function of age, ignorance or blind good fortune to never have suffered any of life’s indignities or inevitable hardships – it always strikes me that the happiest people I know have pretty much no idea how the world really works and just how dark it can be, how unfair and complex or essentially meaningless and random it really is. Perhaps I am jaded or just catastrophically uncertain as how best to cope with the extensive knowledge I do possess but I just can’t get past how astonishingly naive and superficial the happiness of some people really is. It is my nature to seek knowledge and the underlying facts of this world and this drives me to a certain inconsolable despair that gives credence to the notion that ignorance is bliss.
