Leveraging the Limits of Knowledge in Language and Technology

The languages and technologies with which we engage the downstream consequences of our own technical (as linguistic and communications) productivity are as unable to capture, explain and bound the accelerating metamorphosis of technological #change as is that electromechanical juggernaut (itself and also) unable to provide the linearity and closure that is forever spruiks as its key points of value and utility.

It is, however, not an intractable or paradoxical problem. The absence of unifying ontological containment of, or leverage into, the sprawling, spiralling thermodynamic and sociotechnical corollary and consequences of all this essentially Aristotelian #logic is not at all what it seems.

That is – the serial failures of language and technology to represent and assure themselves with unproblematic certainty indicates the presence of an underlying dynamic and symmetry in this communications system. The absence of meaning is merely (and inversely, by negation) another kind of meaning

The absence of closure and certainty inversely invokes another kind of closure and certainty or knowledge and, in or as our experience, as knowing. This is the communications system bootstrap into environmental sustainability AND sentient, organic technologies of future artificialintelligence. It is a heresy, an absurdity, an aberrant discontinuity and it is a truth.

………….

More reflections on communication and control in cybernetics and the philosophy of technology, an occasional series.
