Existential Discontinuity and Information Vulnerability

Information vulnerability is an implicit, endemic and irreducible cost of communications technology. It doesn’t really matter which instances and risks are in ascendance at any particular moment, as consequential and complex as they may ultimately be, because the underlying fact remains that there is no information security “safe harbour” and every action taken, every assertion of regulatory control only ever amplifies the combinatorial depth of the problem-space. These are Gordian Knots.

Curiously, critical failures to regulate a system are the necessary condition to sustain an entire cottage industry and ecology of consultancies, policy analysts and related institutional communication. In terms of communication systems, these conceptual vocabularies reproduce as a function of their own representational failures and much the same might be said of genetic mutation.

The technology sector might do a little better by highlighting the kernel core of intractable insecurity in communications systems. We can’t engage an issue without in some measure identifying it and to be quite honest, regulatory aspirations are critically significant but tend to avoid axiomatic issues – thus inadvertently generating yet more of themselves and of the problems thst validate them. Language does much the same thing but this is not an existential flaw or logical bug, it is a feature.
