Creativity Matters

Expressing ideas with, without, through, or as technological mediation isn’t the issue. The trouble begins with what we expect that mediation to deliver. The moment we try to instrumentalise the whole field—writing, sharing, signalling, transmitting—we quietly become the instrument. We become the relay. The medium. A carrier for systems and incentives that were never ours to begin with and could never have been. If your voice flickers like a candle in a moving room, that is precisely the point at which it is alive. The fragility, the risk of extinction, the sense of being at the edge of disappearance—this is the condition that gives anything you think or feel its actual worth.

Anyone who has ever shared their own work knows the pattern: the small psychological choreography that starts the moment you offer a piece of yourself. “Oh, that’s great. I’m a bit busy right now. Send me the link. I’ll look later.” You can feel the retreat before the sentence ends. The politeness is camouflage. The eye-roll is structural. And yes, it grates.

This is one of the Zeitgeists—never the only one. There is no single causal line for cultural behaviour, no pure explanation. Everything is entangled: attention scarcity, fear of sincerity, ambient insecurity, and the background hum of social exhaustion.

And in that atmosphere, it’s easy to misread yourself as inconsequential. To assume that your ideas have no weight, that nothing you do matters. But that sensation is the signal. It is the indicator that what you are doing has value precisely because it does not come pre-packaged with cultural reassurance. You keep going—writing, drawing, thinking—because sincerity now sits at the lowest probability of recognition, and therefore the highest value of meaning.

If you’re asking what to do with the feeling of insignificance we all drag around—like worn icons we never chose—there is no trick to it. The technological layer promises amplification while eroding signal. It offers reach, but not resonance. So the task is modest and difficult: hold the line of your own thought. Keep the flame where it flickers. Let the vulnerability be the proof of life, not the indication of failure.
