Context: Do you fit the algorithms’ mould? If not, they might ‘screw’ you

Will the enthusiastic cultural and economic act of handing our collective destinies over to an overt and arbitrary algorithmic logic lead to a gradual (or rapid) and self-propagating bias towards “flattening out” of outliers, eccentrics, and authentic innovation ? Where system efficiency is a function of compression, simplification and generalised taxonomies of identity, role and purpose; original thought and creativity will very likely soon follow into a narrowing of culture. Ironically, it is precisely through the apparent divergence and expansive methods of self-expression, notional truth-values-in-shared-narratives and faux administrative or hierarchical control provided by big data and digital technology that an actual convergence and devolution into a meaningless semiotic soup of white noise, listless fiction and endless confusion occurs.
