Generative AI is changing the world but it doesn’t really take much imagination to understand the transformative cultural shift invoked by this new technology is really only the revisitation of what has come before. Creativity in the visual arts has almost exclusively been a process defined by the endless revisitation and evolution of prior representational idioms, varying themes and symbolic idioms in whichever way struck an artist as effective. In this current moment, the experimental prompt has become the crucible of a trial and error much lessdifficult than drawing, painting or conceptual collage ever were. Now, we simply strike the bell of historical data with a generative hammer and observe what wonders, earth and discontinuous grotesque art resonates back for us.
