Driving tonight, someone took this photo over my shoulder. We had been to the city and I decided to drive past the airport. As we crested a hill we were engulfed in smoke.
This was smoke from fires over a hundred kilometers away. The South-East coast of New South Wales has been inundated with bushfires. Australia is undergoing an unprecedented fire disaster – it must be almost two months now and seems to be nowhere near ending.
Everything is infused with smoke. Your eyes sting and the smell becomes so persistent that it becomes normal. This is only the beginning of a full-throttle Climate Catastrophe that is bearing down on all of us.
That was New Year’s Eve on the South-East of Australia. Hello world, Happy New Year.
