Technology as Displaced Entropy

Beam me up, Scotty.”

Context: Australia installs first space laser optical ground station in southern hemisphere

It is interesting to observe, and from a broader (integrated, technological) systems perspective, that the value acquired by iterating upon and through the technical ratchet of space-based communications solutions and innovations is a measure of displaced information (as much as material) entropy. Much as with complexity, entropy never diminishes, but it can be converted, abstracted or translated and redirected in useful ways.

Literal laser-like focus upon a data channel provides utility and value in inverse proportion to the extent to which it simultaneously displaces entropy, complexity and cost (or loss) to what is effectively a material, technical and organisational algorithmic compression library beyond that system.

These deeper systemic connections and distributed properties are rarely seen or acknowledged.
