Simple Truths and Complex Facts
What is the value of truth ?
Self and subjective psychological depth may be little more than a convenience – a fabrication or persistent fantasy and self-propagating illusion.
Logical Depth
The temporal linearity and arrow of time upon which progressive iterations of information or energy-processing depend, or at least that the procedural operations of which must reflexively imply, finds itself as the template from which all extension and logical depth emanate.
Impossible Things
Given sufficient complexity, energy or information flow and time, the logical end-state of any particular process need not itself under analysis appear as though rationally derived or even substantively plausible.
The Universe is under absolutely no obligation to be (or become) intelligible and neither, it seems, as incorporate microcosms of whatever all this grand dancing complexity is, are we.
The Limits of Automation
If automation is only limited by the boundaries of what we can describe, are we actually capable of describing those entities, processes, objects and systems of non-trivially sophisticated complexity with which we all must eventually and inevitably engage ?
What is it that binds the Cosmos to unified principles and patterns of physical laws and constants ?
A Computational Universe ?
Can the Universe be said to be computational ? Algorithmic ? Can distantly-connected parts of a unified physical totality really manifest computation as we currently understand it ?
Countering stupid ideas proves to be a matter of some subtlety and intelligence…
The Outer Limits of Knowledge
Misunderstanding the world in fundamental ways, as we generally do, we more often (and collectively) seek continuity and security in those things which are only very rarely able to provide them…
A good dose of humility is required to allow humanity sufficient and plausible opportunities to continue to exist. We are everywhere beset by distraction and psychological confusion as to our significance and purpose…
